<!-- NOTE FOR ANYONE RESEARCHING THIS!!!!!
You can (as of this writing) still access the store on 360 by inserting a disc, pressing X to view the game details, then pressing Y to search. You can't buy stuff, but downloading games you own might still work, so check that before adding "you cannot get the game on xbox 360" to the page.

Not to be confused with Still Alive (song), a song from the original game.
'Portal: Still Alive' cover art

Portal: Still Alive is a re-released version of Portal for the Xbox 360. It was exclusively released on Xbox Live Arcade on October 22, 2008. It contains the original story of Portal developed by Valve, 14 new bonus test chambers modified from the Portal: The Flash Version MapPack created by We Create Stuff, and 9 new achievements (12 total). There are no additional story-related levels.

Since the shutdown of the Xbox 360 Marketplace, Portal: Still Alive can no longer be purchased directly on an Xbox 360 console, but appears to still be available on the modern Xbox store, which would allow it to be played on newer Xbox consoles through backwards compatibility - whether or not purchasing it this way would also make it downloadable on Xbox 360 is currently unknown.

Still Alive has never been fully ported to any other platforms; the Nintendo Switch port of Portal includes the bonus chambers, but it is otherwise based on the original Orange Box version of the game, lacking the new achievements and some small details present in Still Alive on Xbox 360. An unofficial PC port of the bonus levels also exists, but it similarly lacks the new achievements, and is inaccurate to the original Xbox 360 version in some minor ways.

Differences from original Portal

See Valve Developer Community for an expanded version of this list which includes internal differences relevant to modders.

  • Added 14 new bonus levels based on Portal: The Flash Version, including challenge mode.
  • Replaced the original game's achievements with a set of 12 new achievements. Three of these share their names and icons with achievements from the original game, but have different requirements.
  • Added full-game leaderboards, tracking players' best time, portal, and step scores.
  • Added challenge mode to the advanced chambers. The original game already featured both of these, but they were previously mutually exclusive.
  • The game has a trial/demo mode, something which previously only existed on PC (as Portal: First Slice).
    • The trial stops at the end of chamber 11, whereas First Slice stops at the end of chamber 10. The first bonus chamber can also be played.
    • Trial mode disables all saving, including settings and chapter unlock progress.
    • When the player reaches the end of the trial, an upsell screen is displayed; First Slice simply kicks the player to the menu and opens Portal's Steam store page.
    • Trial mode does not internally restrict what maps can be loaded, unlike First Slice. Due to the fact that Xbox Live Arcade trials are actually just the full game with restricted functionality, this makes it possible to play the entire game in trial mode by using out-of-bounds glitches to skip the point where the trial normally cuts off.
  • Added two unlockable Xbox Gamerpics, depicting the companion cube (obtained from incinerating the companion cube) and the cake (obtained from beating the game).
  • The game's menus have been rearranged, adding additional sub-menus and renaming some options in order to comply with Xbox Live Arcade menu requirements.
