Portal: The Flash Version is a community-created 2D Adobe Flash game based on Portal; many of the game's levels are recreations, and were released as a map-pack. These levels are included in the Xbox Live Arcade version of Portal, Portal: Still Alive.

Overview

Screenshot of the Main menu

The game starts with the words "Good morning subject number 15837. It is time to begin your test." after which the first task starts with the use of Portal Gun. Text on top of the game suggests that subject might not be familiar with the facility, but explains that you need to exit the rooms. First task where the player can be killed is #10, by dropping down from the ledge. First encounter with a dangerous mechanic happens with a modified Crusher (used only in the trailer for Portal) in task #11. Most of the tasks do not require precise timing, except for a few tasks featuring the Energy ball or the Dangerous "field", that lights up for 4 seconds and pauses for 3 seconds.

Items and Mechanics

The game uses most of the same mechanics that are used in Portal, but it also uses some scrapped and totally new mechanics aswell. One of the mechanics wasn't used in Portal but did make it to Portal 2.
