- Hello. I had a mistake: I created 2 incorrect pages about my backpack. Please, delete all incorrect pages. I put link to my backpack on "automaticly-updated Item checklists". Hope, it is OK.

Video walkthroughs
Could I make some for portal :3 — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Medibee (talk) • (contribs)
- There are very high video-quality requirements for walkthroughs so not everyone can render them quite properly. In fact, since Portal and Portal 2 are relatively small games, I was hoping to do both, and yes, Portal as well. I just did Portal 2 first because more people are interested in a Portal 2 walkthrough than a Portal 1 right now, but once that is done I'll get on Portal 1. Anyway, join IRC if you want more — Wind 18:01, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm currently doing the videos for the Portal 2 walkthrough, but I will do the one for Portal 1 after Portal 2 is done. Test chambers
How can I make walkthrough videos for Portal Test Chambers in Russian language? Alexander 19:41, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- If you mean Portal 1, then hold on, let them be created in English first. The Portal 2 videos, however, are almost done in English, so I'd start there.
- Now, there's a few ways to go about this:
- Either the walkthrough is a different version of the English one, with a Russian translators playing through the game and recording videos, same way as the English one
- Either the walkthrough uses the same demos as the English one. Then, I think that the voice files will be replaced by the Russian ones. This means that the video will be exactly the same, but with Russian voices. This will be consistent and be fully translated, but it comes with the limitations of having to use Source Recorder (which is hard for some parts of the game)
- Either the English walkthrough videos are subtitled in Russian. I am currently working on a way to do that automatically, using the game's Russian subtitles files. This way, it will be very easy to have a Russian walkthrough, and the voice will be in English with Russian subtitles. This method can also be used for other languages.
So, what do you prefer? — Wind 20:12, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- I think the first way is better than other two. So video will be more like the game. The second way is rather hard. And voice lines may be replaced incorrectly. What about the third way? Hearing voice is certainly better than reading subtitles. But there's a very small disadvantage using the first or the second way. The voice that sounds in Russain language differs from original one. And some voice effects (changing voice, garbles) aren't shown.
- Alexander 21:04, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- The thing with the first way is that it's the longest and hardest one, because it involves re-doing everything that was done for the English part of the wiki. You're free to do it if you want to, but I'd suggest gathering other people to help you along, because it is a very long task (took me months).
- In the meantime, I've been working on a subtitling tool (you can see it here) which will allow us to make captions for sections of the video, associate them with a sound file, and from that map it to other languages. So what can be done is to use the third way (english with russian subtitles), then as the real Russian walkthrough progresses, replace videos with it. Does that sound like a good plan? — Wind 23:58, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes? It's good idea. I've recorded a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDayHXyy9xc . Is it good walkthrough video? Alexander 21:17, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that someone who needs a walkthrough of Portal 1 more than 4 years after its release is likely to be a person very new to video games. Because of that, it is important to make the walkthrough easy to understand and follow; that is why, on the Portal 2 walkthrough, all the camera movements are very slow (it makes it easier to follow). To an experienced gamer, this style of movement does look slow, but that's okay. So, in other words: Move the mouse slowly.
- Another thing is pacing: it is important to move kind of slowly and give an overview of each room you enter. This is for several reasons:
- It will be easier for someone to know which room you are in (since you look around the room)
- It will be easier to follow
- YouTube's thumbnails for a video are a choice between the image at 25% of the video, 50% of the video, or 75% of the video. If you take looks around the room as yu enter them, there is a higher chance that one of youtube's video thumbnails will be one of those moments, which will make a nice video thumbnail (Just a little bonus, hehe)
- For test chambers, make sure you stare at the information panel (where it says the test chamber number) for at least 3 seconds
- Last but not least is graphics quality. First, make sure to record videos with a resolution of ratio 16:9 (1280x720 preferably, or 1920x1080 if you can). This will make sure that the video occupies the entire video player, instead of having those black bars on the left and the right like this video has. Also, you can try to record at a higher graphics quality if you can, so that it looks better. If you can't, that's okay, but most importantly make sure it still looks smooth.
- Thanks, and good luck :3 — Wind 21:36, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments. I'll try to do better.
- P.S. Uploading videos takes very much time. For exsample, this video (two minutes) was uploaded in two with a half hours.
- Alexander 22:06, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes indeed~ It takes me from 4 to 14 hours to upload a walkthrough video, depending on the length of the video D: Slow connection + big files = long time. Don't worry about it though, take your time. No rush~ — Wind 22:07, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- I can't turn on 1280x720 resolution in the game. If 16:9 ratio resolution is needed I can enable only 856x480 or 848x480. Should I use again 1024x768 HD resolution or choose 856(or 848)x480 one? — Alexander 22:40, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- That's a shame :( I guess your monitor doesn't go to 1280x720. Do you know anyone who has such a monitor, or do you have another monitor that you could plug into your computer for that? If not, then I guess 1024x768 would be the best choice, but not very good still >: — Wind 22:42, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- No, I don't know anyone who can help me. Then I'll make not very good video. I hope less people will detect black bars. Also there is no black bar in fullscreen mode if watching people have NOT WIDESCREEN monitor. — Alexander 00:10, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- Aww :( If you want, I can ask the Russian translators of the Team Fortress Wiki to come and help. Do you want me to ask? :o And yeah, they don't show in fullscreen mode but they show when you view the page normally — Wind 01:00, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I do. Let them help us to make videos If they can. It will be better. — Alexander 11:11, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, asked :3 — Wind 05:36, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes? It's good idea. I've recorded a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDayHXyy9xc . Is it good walkthrough video? Alexander 21:17, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- So... What programm do you use to record in-game videos? What videocard are you using? --Daniil 15:26, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- For reference, for the Portal 2 walkthrough:
- All done using Source Recorder, rendered at 1920x1080 60 fps, with some exceptions detailed here: User:WindPower/WalkthroughNotes
- Graphics configuration here: File:Portal 2 walkthrough config.cfg
- Encoded with x264 lossless mode for video, uncompressed (PCM) for audio
The Russian walkthrough doesn't have to follow exactly those, but closer is better :3 — Wind 15:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

- On Windows Vista or 7, you can use the Snipping Tools to do that (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Snipping Tool), which lets you select a rectangle on your screen to capture, and then lets you save it somewhere. Implementing TF2 Wiki-styled merchandise pricing
I've added all the needed templates (as seen here: User:Sven/Sandbox), added all the current prices of the merchandise to the pricing page (here), and am ready to update the Merchandise page itself. Atlas and P-body articles
Since Atlas and P-body experience through the same events in co-op, wouldn't it be a better idea to have the two characters merged into one article like the Combine Overwiki did? Regarding the recent "The Underground" addition, I'd like a precedent
The addition of the Machinima series makes me wonder how each "non-canon" article (such as The Underground, gameplay mods if they have unique characters, minor characters in Lab Rat) should/will be handled in the future. I'd normally take some examples from the TF2 Wiki, but as the TF2 Wiki doesn't seem to have this issue (no Machinima articles that I'm aware of) and the additional fact that we're a bit starved for content (I mean, Portal and P2 aren't exactly updated weekly...), I have no idea what to do. I don't want this place to get that "most of the page is pictures" feel that the OverWiki has.... Any advice? Would a "Non-Canon Character Nav" or something similar be enough? Due to the generally HQ of the images provided by this Wiki, I humbly request permission to make use of some of them on my community's mapping Wiki (Example page here: Right here). - That's fine as long as you respect the license on each image, and the license of the content (CC-BY-3.0, which basically just means you should mention where the stuff is from). But you do know there's quite a large section for that at the VDC, right?) — Wind 21:24, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- I *personally* am aware of that. It would seem that the other members of the (admittedly small) community (around 10 or so right now [the forum isn't done, itself]) want to venture into BIGGER things, and that apparently includes a wiki as well. Majority rules in favor of the wiki, and as such, we (apparently) are doing that. Thank you Wind. :D ~Sven~ (talk) 21:30, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

i know this may seem impossible or out of your reach but, does any one(or you wind) know how to add the songs for the portal 1 soundtrack thanks — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nivekzepol (talk) • (contribs)
- Unlike the Portal 2 soundtrack, Valve has not released the Portal 1 soundtrack for free public release, so uploading it on a public site like this is legally hazardous. That is why it has not been uploaded — Wind 17:45, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
Can't load "Turrets" page?
Does the Turrets page load for you? All it does for me is open a blank white screen. I have no idea what's going on. ~Sven~ (talk) 15:24, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Is fixed, thanks~ — Wind 16:35, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
Translator status?
Hey, I have much fun translating articles into German (see Cubes/de and Gels/de) and wanted to ask, is there any way to achieve an "official" translator "rank"? If yes, how do I achieve it?
- There is no such status >: There are localization moderators, which are moderators for a particular language, but those are only needed if there are multiple active translators in that language.
- Thanks for your translations by the way~ — Wind 19:26, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing the Ap-Sap voice line thing. It looks about a million times better now. ~Sven~ (talk) 19:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Activeness of the Wiki
Hey Wind, I just came back from a one year pause and since I left, no user has even touched your discussion. My question is: How active is the Wiki still? Y'know, I don't want to translate page-long articles and no one reads them... if I'm wrong, slap me, I'm just concerned. 20:20, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
- Editing has slowed down, but viewership has stayed strong for the past 2 years. Here's the session data from Google Analytics. Hope this helps~ — Wind 04:36, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
Aperture Science WHAT?!?
Hey, about the Aperture Science Explosive Surface Prototype page, it's just that i was kind of crazy and wanted to give out a complex name for the Aperture Science bomb. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Party Escort Bot = Beans (talk) • (contribs)
- I see, but that doesn't mean you should create a redirect for it — Wind 19:55, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Broken line... not broken?!
You said you had undone my edit on Portal Test chamber 19 that made "Prepare yourself for the cake" not a spoiler any more because it broke the list. I have seen your picture and understand what you mean, but the list isn't broken on my computer, so i think it might be a problem with your computer/laptop/whatever. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Party Escort Bot = Beans (talk) • (contribs)
- Can you take a screenshot of the version of the page from before the undo? — Wind 05:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Insane amount of userpages
Hey there, so when i found out that you can have multiple userpages simply by having them named User:your username here/page name here (for example, User:WindPower/My Pages) i started making userpages like crazy, even starting a text game on the Portal wiki, called Party Escort Beans Enrichment Center, and then i asked myself: Is there a limit to userpages? Will moderators delete your userpages if you have too much? And since i cannot figure it out by myself, i would like to know if there is a userpage creation limit. The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 13:10, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- There is no limit as long as it stays reasonable size-wise (for example if you have more than 50000 pages with 100 kilobytes of text each, it becomes ~5 megabytes which is fine, but something like 50000000 pages would be ~5 gigabytes and that's not fine).
- Also:
- There's also no need for the notice about potential deletion of the page because of the DISPLAYTITLE trick, your userpages won't be deleted just because they use DISPLAYTITLE.
- You may find Special:PrefixIndex/User:Party Escort Bot = Beans useful if you start losing track of all the pages you have.
- Hope this helps~ — Wind 15:22, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- Okay thanks, about the notice for potential deletion, it's because i'm worrying about people saying things such as "Oh this page is named Party Escort Bot = Beans voice lines i'll delete it cuz there's no one called Party Escort Bot = Beans in Portal and Portal 2" when the page is actually named User:Party Escort Bot = Beans/Party Escort Bot = Beans voice lines. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Party Escort Bot = Beans (talk) • (contribs)
Portal 2 Chapter 10
On the page Portal 2 Chapter 10 Test Chamber 0, you mention that Portal 2 has no chapter 10. Actually, the ending sequence/video/cutscene where you rise to the surface is considered as Chapter 10 by the game, so... yeah. But since i couldn't find a page specifically for the ending sequence, i decided just to redirect it to Portal 2. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Party Escort Bot = Beans (talk) • (contribs)
- Maybe it can link to Turret Opera. — Wind 05:58, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, i'll make it link to the Turret Opera. By the way, it's definitely confirmed that there IS a chapter 10, as when you complete the game and click "New game", you see Chapter 10 unlocked. If you click it, you will be sent to the ending video. The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 14:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for assuming the party escort submission position
I asked this question on YouTube. I asked this question on the Party Escort Bot's talk page. I googled this question. I asked it to a lot of Portal fans. I searched everywhere for a download.
Still no answer. Still no result. Still no download.
So now i got an idea:
I will ask this question on WindPower's page. He always replies to me. So i will finally get an answer. A result. A download.
HERE IS THE QUESTION THAT REMAINED UNANSWERED FOR... A LONG TIME:
The Question
Do you know where i could download the "Thank you for assuming the party escort submission position" dialog (without the background sounds)?
Yeah. Such a simple. Simplistic question. That remained unanswered. It's like i asked what number comes after 999,999,999.2591525. (to be honest, it's actually simple, as the answer is 999,999,999.2591526) So do you know where i could download that dialog? The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 14:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
The Answer?
Put your answer here:
- Sorry, I have no idea. It's in the game audio files somewhere. If you find out, make sure to upload it on the wiki. It may be part of the whole audio file that plays in the ending sequence, in which case there's no way to get the background-less version of it without asking Valve to provide it separately. — Wind 23:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- I saw your message and rushed to Portal to find out. Apparently the outside sounds DO NOT include the Party Escort Bot's voice: the Party Escort Bot's voice is "ai_outro_voice" or something similar. I will try to upload it as soon as possible. The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 11:57, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- Where do you find the voice lines for Portal? I tried in sound/vo/aperture_ai and all the files were empty.
Portal Wiki... 9999999 later (according to the Announcer)
Okay, it's me once again, this time it's not a question, well you know IT IS a question, but not about Portal or the Party Escort Bot or userpages. So i was bored, and then i got this idea in my head, and created this image, and i just needed someone to tell me if it was good or not.
I call it "The Overgrown Portal Wiki". Do you like it?
Oh, by the way, sorry for the enormous image size, it was either that or make it tiny. The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 11:47, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- Cool. — Wind 07:27, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Pourquoi est-ce-que je parle anglais, alors que WindPower connait le français?? Oh, euh. Non, c'est du photo-montage :( en fait, c'est quoi, le CSS? The Portal Player that discovered the Party Escort Bot is a pack of beans (talk) 22:12, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
— Wind 03:56, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
- Eh, ma signature n'a pas changé! Ah, peut-être que si, en fait. Party Esc rt Bot = Beans 11:06, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Wiki creator?
Hi, just asking, who created this wiki? At first i thought it was RJackson...
...but, since you made him a moderator, that doesn't work.
So i thought about I-ghost...
...that didn't work either.

Hello
Hello WindPower, I from Dota 2 Wiki. Can you please reborn WindBOT? It's stop working long time ago... Or shortly teach us how to make another bot, on Windows, to make same functions plus others. Please, we need your help. Medok (talk) 15:48, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- The bot's IP was banned from dota2.gamepedia.com in the cloudflare control panel. There's nothing I can do until that goes away. — Wind 20:39, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- I already unblock it. Permanent blocks can be unblocked only with reban, I ban WindBOT for 2 hours and block disappears. Now you can do that. :D Medok (talk) 21:00, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- This isn't a ban from the wiki, it's a ban at the HTTP level. Whenever I try to access any page on dota2.gamepedia.com from the bot's IP, Cloudflare returns "The owner of this website (dota2.gamepedia.com) has banned your IP address (96.126.105.219)". This has to be fixed by whoever owns the cloudflare account that handles gamepedia.com. — Wind 21:09, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- Oh that pretty bad( I try ask Curse staff to do something with that. Medok (talk) 21:13, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- This IP was unblocked today. Try check it out! :D Medok (talk) 17:55, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
"It was blocked because it was causing problems with too many requests and if it causes problems in the future they will be forced to rate-limit it." Medok (talk) 18:00, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Co-op Demos
Hey wind, I know it's been a few years. I'm looking at updating the Portal 2 Co-op Video walkthroughs and adding the reamining ones. I'm just wondering if putting up the demos would be useful, I've got both Atlas and P-body perspectives. I've done the entire co-op campaign, but I'm going to redo a few that I feel dragged on excessively. I can post a google drive link because I can't post them directly here due to filesize. Wow that was a lot of words. Arrran Weeviling (talk)
- That sounds great, but it would be even better if they were on the wiki. I'm happy to bump up the max file size, let me know how large they get. — Wind 04:23, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Licensing Guide?
I have posted a short guide about Licensing and the "Portal Wiki VS Overwiki License Dispute".
But can you make it an official guide......... :P

Discord
Does this wiki use discord? if it does is there a server i can join, since IRC is a hassle to use sometimes, and doesn't keep track of messages. FreshYoMama (talk) 21:29, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- No Discord, sorry. I tried to set up a Matrix server once, which would solve this problem without the need for relying on a centralized service (Discord), but it didn't really catch on. The larger problem though is that the existing tooling (RC notifications) are on IRC right now and they'd have to be ported to a Discord bot or something first. — Wind 06:09, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
