Gentlemen

We have come thus far; the front page is looking splendid.
minip 01:11, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I agree, though I have two gripes with it.
1) Who typed "Valve" like this for the main page links?
http://i51.tinypic.com/v8os5s.jpg
It should be "Valve". The uppercase version with the smaller sized "E" is just a logo, nothing more. I see things like "VALVe" and such being written entirely too often elsewhere.
2) The yellow tint color for the background of the box tables looks strange. Yellow, no matter how desaturated, isn't really in the color scheme of Portal (ignoring instances such as the yellow portal for the co-op partner and other instances). Overall it's grays, blues, blacks. Clean colors. With the overuse of the blue elements on the Wiki's theme (the logo the links etc), yellow looks out of place. -- Benjamoose Om nom nom! (talk | contribs) 20:17, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Tried to address the colors; I'm no expert designer, so please feel free to tweak them further. I do believe it's an improvement though :3 For further reference, not all colors are on MediaWiki:Common.css; some are in style attributes on {{Main Page layout}} and {{ExtendedIndex}}. Vector Skin glitch in IE9

Now, I can't exactly explain what's going on, but every time I've loaded this Wiki on Internet Explorer 9, it's failed to load the Vector skin altogether, until I change my user agent string to Chrome, FF, Opera, even the Bing Bot string works, but the default user agent string failed to load the skin at all. I believe it's an issue that should be looked at, since it also appears to affect IE7-IE8. --Swertmastra

Thank you for your concern; we are aware of this problem, it is caused by MediaWiki. We are awaiting the next MediaWiki patch, hopefully they will address this issue.
minip 05:33, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
* A new MediaWiki patch has been released; this issue is now resolved.

Is it able to translate main logo in sidebar and in header? And MediaWiki:Sidebar too? If it is, here they are (russian):

Will do as soon as a Russian editor can confirm this translation. Wouldn't want a homepage with profanity or stuff on it, I hope you understand :3 — Wind 02:06, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. As I see, it isn't possible to translate main logo, is it? — Gl0BuZ 05:43, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Would be possible to make some little piece of javascript to replace it on every page after the page loads, but that's not the most elegant solution. I'll poke seb about it — Wind 05:44, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
So how is this getting along? Should there be an image for the different languages or witchcraft? ××× User:Wormhole | T | C | ××× 16:12, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Blog posts

Are you going to make Current Events such as in tf2 wiki? I mean, blog posts here — Thinking with portals! 05:08, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

If they turn out to be regular enough, yes. Otherwise, it'd look kind of stale — Wind 05:17, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
For the contest, I'm going to throw up an event banner on the main page. As for future blog posts, we'll have to wait and see but I'm not against the idea. - RJUser RJackson Pixelturret.png talk 16:51, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

The Gels

Hello! I noticed that the Gels are not display in the "Mechanics" part of the main page. I think, if it's not a forget, the Gels page is more important than for example the High Energy Pellet page, wich is only present in the first Portal (and Portal is in my opinion considerably less played than Portal 2). So, is a change needed here ? Thanks for reading. Jay 18:49, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Sixense DLC now available.

As the title states, we need to get some articles up. I'd work on some myself but I've got college really early and I'm already up way too late. Steam News announcement, Store page.

Food for discussion:

  • How should we document the DLC
    • A seperate game, like how we deal with Portal: Still Alive
    • Or a section on Portal 2
    • Perhaps consider is a "Game mode" - like there's Single Player, Co-op and then Sixense.
  • Related to above, how should we document the extra test chambers.
  • Also, I hope some of you have one of these Hydra controllers; else it's gonna be tough to document.

- RJUser RJackson Pixelturret.png talk 01:36, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

The fact that it is discrete from P2 and requires a particular piece of hardware indicates to me that it should be considered to be a separate product. That being said, much of the Wiki's current material can be re-used verbatim, but video walkthroughs, etc would be another thing entirely. -Esky 01:41, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
The controller is $140/€140 so yea, unlikely any of us own one :S Which is a shame as some of the levels look quite good. Perhaps we could extract them somehow.... MUser Moussekateer signature portal.pngussekateer·talk 01:43, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Super 8 in Portal 2

Hey, uh. When are we gonna get to the Super 8 topic? There's an interactive teaser in the Extras --Breakin' Benny 15:08, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

A Wiki Hat?

I guess that if we want the wiki to be supported by more players we should add a Portal 2 ingame wiki hat :)The preceding unsigned comment was added by Atlas (talk) • (contribs)

An exclusive in-game item is something Valve would have to decide upon implementing. We cannot influence the content of the game. - RJUser RJackson Pixelturret.png talk 11:49, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Can I contact valve as the wiki, I think they will be glad to help us :)? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Atlas (talk) • (contribs)

Like this?, hmm I would love to help, I just wonder on what o.o Atlas 13:02, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Better late than never I think. Would be great if it works across both TF2 and Portal 2 for the Bots. Before Valve leaves Portal behind. Any news on the possible sequel to Two? If yes, this has a chance, since the TF2 guys are affiliated with them, and we're allied ei them.

A Songs Section?

Do you think we should make a song section.

Conversion and Time Machine.

Hi guys!

I'm back from a bit of Portal hiatus for some TF2. Anyways, I'm back.

The first thing I did was download the Thinking with Time Machine mod for Portal 2. Playing it for half an hour, wrote a bit. But apparently no one plays Portal nowadays.

So should I be the one who writes it all? It's going to be fun! :D

Also, everyone watch the Conversion release. Maybe a video guide?

DSnWiiRocks (talk) 10:08, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

The sole reason why I haven't been either playing Portal/TF2 or editing wikis is because of my lack of internet connection at home. I'll write a good bit more whenever I can stop using the library as my connection to world. I've got big plans for this wiki and for the TF2 Wiki. Until then, just try your best to be fair and write well. ~Sven~ (talk) 19:21, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

I made a Steam group for the Wiki

It was something ad-lib'd. But if we were to have a shot at Gaben, we need a page. You lab boys get to this page, and add me. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/theportalwiki/

Will mods and admins here kindly approach me so we can cooperate on this. thanks!

Proposed changes to Index

Mechanics - Add the following: Thermal Discouragement Beam, Hard Light Bridge, Excursion Funnel.

Characters - Remove Hoopy the Hoop, add Doug Rattmann.

TDBs, HLBs and Excursion Funnels are too major mechanics to be excluded. Hoopy the Hoop is even less of a 'character' than the Weighted Companion Cube, and has no reason to be listed as one. Doug Rattmann is a character, and a significant one at that. He should be listed.

If you agree/disagree with my proposed changes, discuss below. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Informativeaccount (talk) • (contribs)

I agree with the character change, and partially the mechanic change. However, the rest of the mechanics are listed on the 'Test Chambers' page. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ejjgjrjgjjjvjrjdjwie (talk) • (contribs)

Hello,

First, you should add 4 tildes at the end of your message in order to sign it.

For your question, research the name of the page you want to create, and then you have the message Create the page "<pagename>" on this wiki!" under the search bar. Just click on <pagename> to start creating the page. If the page you want to create is a translation of a page already created, just go to the english version of the page, then go to the adress bar and just add the suffix /<languagediminutive>. For instance, if you want to do a french translation, add the suffix /fr.

Sincerely yours, Xorven (talk) 15:11, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
