The character articles on the Portal Wiki must adhere to the following structure to ensure clarity and relevance to the character of the article's subject.

Important: Characters that appear in community-made mods or test chambers should be documented within the respective mod or test chamber article under a section titled "Characters", rather than in a separate article. Given the vast number of mods, maintaining individual pages for each custom character would be impractical.

Structure

Introduction

Every article has an introduction. This introduction is a brief overview of the character, who they are and what they do.

History

The history section documents what we know about the character and how they came to be in whatever situation they are in. This section should not be used to tell the Story of the franchise.

References

The references section is used to document any reference to the character in relevance to the Story, that is not relevant to the characters history. For example, Cave Johnson is referenced in Portal by one of Rattman's Dens; this belongs in references as it is irrelevant to Cave Johnson's history.
