*The player character, [[Chell]], is put under stasis a number of times throughout the [[Portal]] franchise. In Portal, the game opens up with Chell having just awakened from an undefined time in stasis. At the end, she is put into stasis again by [[Doug Rattmann]].  
At the beginning of Portal the player character,[[Chell]] , wakes up from stasis in the [[Relaxation Vault]]. The amount of time she had been in suspension was undefined.  This is the only appearance of stasis in Portal.

The bed in the relaxation vault,seen to the right, is evidently some kind of medical equipment. At the front there is a screen and near the back there are canisters of a undefined substance. 
This is very different to the bed found in The Extended Relaxation Centre which is made to look like a normal bed and does not show any signs of how it works .
