{{DISPLAYTITLE:Using custom co-op maps}}
This is to help people who want to play custom [[co-op]] maps with there friends
== You will need == | |||
* Portal 2 (Duh) | |||
* The Internet (Double duh)
* A Un-zipping program (such as 7-zip) <ref>Not Required on most maps but usually maps are in an archive format you cant open in windows</ref>
* A friend who has the same things
== Downloading and Installing the maps ==
Some of you are thinking "duh I know how to download and install maps" well not everyone knows how to
1. Find the map you want sites that do Portal 2 maps will be linked below
2. Click download (obvious)
3. Open the archive (if archive format)
4. Locate the .bsp file | |||
5. Extract to C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps <ref>or where ever steam is installed for you</ref>
That's the map downloaded and installed for you but unlike Team Fortress 2 the map isn't downloaded to the client if it isn't in the maps folder so your friend needs to do the same thing (make sure its the same version map he is downloading)
== Setting up the co-op map ==
Now you both have the map you need to be able to connect and if your thinking "Oh this is easy I just type map map_name in the console then send invite" you are wrong I tried that and it just disconnects you
1. Open portal 2 and start Co-op with your friend
2. Wait until the hub loads (presuming you and your friend don't have to do calibration course)
3. The host opens up the console and types changelevel map_name_here
4. .... | |||
5. Profit <ref>not realy needed but felt like adding it</ref><newline>
