An Aerial Faith Plate in Portal 2

The Aerial Faith Plate is a mechanism introduced in Portal 2. This device launches players at a set velocity and height, usually to a destination over a gap or the other part of a test chamber. It can be used in junction with Portals and their ability to preserve velocity while passing through, making it simple to get to places further away.

Aerial Faith Plates can launch any object that is placed on it, from a standard Weighted Storage Cube to a Turret, it'll launch these objects the same distance as the player at the same speed. These are also encountered in Co-op, including the Hub, where they're used as a form of traveling to another course where portals cannot reach. The mechanism is designed so that the player is launched either directly upwards, forwards, or backwards in motion. There is only one instance where an Aerial Faith Plate launches you sideways, during the final chapters where Wheatley plans to kill you.
