Sorry about that, I really have no idea how to do this really. My editing program, Paint.NET doesn't seem to support transparency much. Either that or I have no idea how. I apologize for this. :It's cool. I use Paint.net too. What you need to do is select around the object (in your case, the cores) and just delete the white areas so that it's a gray-checkerboard pattern.
