Though what role Greg may have played is unclear, he was replaced by [[Caroline]] before the release of the game. He was not placed into the story line thought he was talked about a couple of times and was talked about the new DLC.<ref name="Commentary">Portal 2's developer commentary</ref> Therefore, Greg is an assistant to Cave.

According to the ''[[Portal 2 - The Final Hours|The Final Hours of Portal 2]]'', one of the reasons Greg was cut was to eliminate the cost of hiring a new voice actor that only played a small role, instead reusing [[Ellen McLain]] to voice Caroline. {{spoiler|Doing this also provided a background for GLaDOS, due to the usage of same voice actors.
