Wheatley Update (video)
Wheatley Update is a video which was released by Valve on August 24, 2010 in order to promote Portal 2. The video contains a series of vignettes from the early stages of the game, and its objective was to provide more information about Wheatley's character and personality, as well as demonstrate the way in which the player would interact with him. This was released shortly after Wheatley's voice was revealed to be provided by Stephen Merchant.[1]

| Wheatley: Oh! Brilliant! You made it through, well done! Okay, follow me, we've still got work to do...at least she can't touch us back here.
[Lights shut down, and the Portal 2 logo fades in.] Wheatley: What's happening? Uhh...hmm...okay, uh...don't. Move. Wheatley: Okay, alright, so, I've got an idea, but it is bloody dangerous. Here we go... [Click] Wheatley: AAAH! ...oh, for God's-they told me, that if I ever turn this flashlight on, I would die! They told me that about everything! I-I don't even know why they would bother giving me this stuff if they didn't want me to use it, it's pointless! Mad! Wheatley: Here's an interesting story, you might like this; I almost got a job down here, in manufacturing, but uh, guess who the foreman went with? Only an exact duplicate of himself. Nepotism. Ends up giving me the worst possible job, tending to all the smelly humans... Wheatley: The...the, um...sorry about that, that just slipped out... Wheatley: Okay, this looks dangerous. I'll hold the light steady. Wheatley: Oh, nicely done! Wheatley: Ohh, I'll tell you...humans, aah, love 'em, just...the way they look, that's great...and their...f, folklore. Wonderful, very colorful. Wheatley: Quick, this way! Turret: Hello? Turret: Activated. Wheatley: Right...well. I'm just going to take this rail, down the back way. See you at the bottom. Good luck. Turret: There you are. Announcer: Power-up, initiated. Wheatley: Okay, don't panic! It's, it's we-we-I can still stop it, not a problem! Wheatley: There's a password, it's fine, I'll-I'll just hack it, not a problem. Okay... Wheatley: A, A, A...A, A...A. [Buzzer] Wheatley: That wasn't right? I thought it was going to be it, I'm surprised. Wheatley: A, A, A...A, A...C? [Buzzer] Wheatley: That wasn't- now that's surprising, that's...wait, I didn't do B, did I? We should be making a note of these, have you got a pen? Announcer: Power-up completed. Wheatley: Okay, look, uh, don't panic, alright? Stop panicking. New plan: act natural. We've done nothing wrong. Hello! GLaDOS: Oh. It's you. Wheatley: You know her? GLaDOS: It's been a long time. How have you been? Wheatley: Oh, I think she likes you. GLaDOS: I've been really busy being dead...you know, after you murdered me. Wheatley: You did what? GLaDOS: *sigh* Okay, look...we both said a lot of things that you're going to regret...but I think we can put our differences behind us...for science...you monster. [Reconstructing Science] |
Trivia
- The video is not in chronological order, and the footage shown at the beginning of the video actually occurs later in the game than the encounter with GLaDOS at its conclusion.
