Portal Pinball by Multimorphic (Physical Pinball Machine) is a physical pinball game developed by Multimorphic, Inc. for their P3 Pinball Platform. Based on the Portal video game series from Valve, the game integrates numerous physical and virtual features inspired by Portal 1 and Portal 2.

The playfield is equipped with interactive mechanisms, including 10 RGB illuminated physical portals and 6 additional scoop portals that allow the pinball to instantly "travel through."

There are two editions of the game available:

  • Portal Standard: A 3-flipper game.
  • Portal Extended: A 4-flipper game that includes the Portal module extension.

The Portal module extension is an add-on that floats above the screen and enhances gameplay with:

  • Additional decorated catwalks
  • A physical spinner
  • Four physical targets
  • A third dynamic ramp
  • A hidden gel tube kickback mechanism
  • An elevated, cross-playfield Hard Light Bridge experience

The game software automatically detects the presence of the module extension and adjusts the game rules accordingly. The Portal Extended Game Kit requires a Left Side-Target Flipper Assembly, which is pre-installed on new P3 machines purchased with Portal but may need to be acquired separately for older P3 units.

Gameplay begins in "the Hub," thematically similar to the Cooperative Testing Initiative from Portal 2. Players interact with Reggie, the "Teambuilding" Personality Core (voiced by Marc Silk), who guides them through objectives and seven unique Test Chambers:

  • The Big Fling
  • Encouragement via Discouragement
  • Proactive Energy Redirection
  • It Takes Two
  • Shortcuts
  • Gels
  • Rat Man’s Den

Completing all Test Chambers allows players to engage in a final "wizard mode" battle against GLaDOS (voiced by Ellen McLain).

In the Hub, players can complete eight objectives:

  • Ramp Combos
  • Loop Combos
  • Repulsion Gel
  • Momentum Jump
  • Portal Mini-Loops
  • Hard Light Bridge
  • All Ports
  • All Targets

There are also three stackable Multiball Modes:

  • Faith Plate Multiball
  • Turret Multiball
  • Edgeless Safety Cube Multiball

The Upper Playfield Module features various elements from the Portal universe, including:

  • A portal to the LOFT (Library of Failed Tests) with a Companion Cube ball lock.
  • An angled panel portal for momentum jumps.
  • An Aerial Faith Plate.
  • Ramps that can lift to reveal illuminated portals.
  • A unique captive ball mechanism.
  • A Turret Control Center scoop.
  • An animated Reggie toy sculpt and a rotating physical turret toy.

The P3's dynamic display provides an immersive experience tailored to each game mode. The Portal Extended version further enhances immersion with unique artwork and additional shots and mechanisms closer to the flippers, such as a dynamic "glass ramp," pedestal switches, an outer left orbit with a spinner, and a left side flipper return featuring a dynamic hidden panel for Hard Light Bridge ball transfers.
