Hi all , I'm new here
Hi all, I'm very new (like I just made my account a few minutes ago new), and I have no idea how to edit pages and need some help.
first thing I would do is link some of the images I've uploaded (character cards from the Portal: The Uncooperative Cake Acquisition Game) to their respective pages (especially the party escort bot since the art on it is pretty interesting). as well as generally making the board game page way better. some one get back to me please. in the meantime I'll upload the rest of the game cards. -Stickyy
EDIT: is this wiki even active?

: Hey there. To answer the last question first, not a whole lot. As you can see, there are some people still here, myself included. There's just not a whole lot in the Portal community to write about these days, so people tend not to. Moondust hasn't been touched really (and I can't because I can't do VR on my setup), and The Lab is unfinished. It's a very casual place now, as far as pacing goes, but we are still in partnership with the TF2 Wiki, are on their server, and have most of their staff on our staff (as inactive as they may be here), so we must maintain a high level of quality despite the slowness and our unofficial status. As far as uploading all of those pictures, good job! I agree that the Associate art is interesting, as well as the Henry card since it's an actual model instead of just a comic picture.
As for the initial question, I'll post it onto your discussion page since this page is intended for discussion of the Wiki itself. Sven Cakemann (talk) 23:36, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
Add more articles
I have noticed the Combine OverWiki has substantially more articles than us, and the Half Life Fandom Wiki has more articles too, and the Bird should be in the main article line.

It's silent here...
Even with the pandemic, the wiki is still very dull. Active contributors are just me, User:Thedoczek, User:Sven and some image uploaders. Headquarter8302 (talk) 00:06, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
:Aside from the few updates that happen with Portal 2, there's not really a lot going on in the community. There's no shortage of stuff to 'do', but there's just a lack of enthusiasm due to the lack of new official content. It'll pick back up at some point. == Licensing Guide ==
Combine Overwiki use BY-SA 4.0, we used CC-BY 3.0, and the Half-life Fandom wiki used Generic CC-BY-SA 2.0
As far as i know:
BY-SA 4.0 is Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International is the license used by the Overwiki (the license is copied through the text and knowledge base, appropriate credit is required to transfer the knowledge)
CC-BY 3.0 is Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC-BY 3.0) is just a share-alike attribution, the weakest and most indisputable license (basically the license only carried through the text and knowledge base)
Generic CC-BY-SA 2.0

Fandom used this license, the most basic license you'll ever get.
<u>IMPORTANT!</u>
We cannot copy from Overwiki, but they can copy from us. We CAN copy from the Fandom base wikis but uses the Generic license which is kinda frustrating to comprehence.
Sooo.... People, you now understand the basic licenses? - Headquarter8302 (talk) 05:04, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
:I added a note about this here. I don't think content can be copied from Fandom wikis, as they have the same ShareAlike clause as the Combine Overwiki does... — Wind 04:08, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

An extension is deprecated, should we change it?
Since I'm not handling with articles anymore, I will take care of maintenance. And just like charm, when I'm sneaking through the Special:Version article, I've noticed that GeeQuBox extension (image preview thingy) is deprecated (as evidenced by the archival page on MediaWiki). Should we change it to the more later version? It has fixes from the original GeeQu.

Hello. I recently joined the portal wiki in order to create more articles in Japanese. I would like to translate the voice lines of each character, but I don't know how to reflect "Template:Dictionary/voice lines/---" in my articles. == The Wiki has been Hacked ==
I have recently went on to this wiki to look at Wheatley's character page. It turns out that that page and several others had been changed by someone who doesn't seem to have an account anymore, and they took out ALL information on these pages and replaced them with random messages. To anyone in charge: Please fix this. I just wanted to find some knowledge and I was met with nonsensical messages, and as someone who looks at this wiki a LOT, it would be appreciated if the original pages could be restored if possible. Thank you if anyone indeed listens to this. - Sincerely, AJSloth707 (April 15th, 2023)

Potential renaming of test chamber pages
Currently, all of the test chamber pages are simply named based on the game title, chapter, and chamber number, for example Portal 2 Chapter 4 Test Chamber 18. While this is technically sufficient to differentiate chambers, in practice it makes trying to find pages for specific test chambers nearly impossible. Nobody remembers chamber numbers, and many players don't even look at the signs to begin with, so trying to find the page for a specific chamber usually boils down to just clicking through randomly until you find the one you're looking for (on a wiki which already seems to struggle with server issues and is often slow or unresponsive).
However, all of the Portal 2 chambers and many chambers in mods actually have descriptive names, originating from the Challenge Mode UI and map filenames. In fact, many of the test chamber pages on this wiki already list these names as part of the infobox! (e.g. see the page I linked above) With that in mind, it seems logical to rename the pages to use these names when available. The challenge mode names could be used directly, while map filenames in mods would need to be "prettified" (replacing underscores with spaces, removing prefixes, and changing to title case). These names are far easier to remember than numbers are, and also usually give a basic description of the map, so even if you didn't have them memorized you could still look at "chapter 8 - funnel polarity" and determine that that's probably the map where reversed funnels are introduced. This would help to make finding test chamber pages easier, and potentially reduce server strain as a result of users not having to click through as many different pages.
Not all maps have these names available (particularly in Portal 1 and mods for it), so those maps would just continue to use the current page naming scheme, perhaps with slight changes. Portal 1's maps are fairly easier to remember by number anyway (since the whole game is on a single continuous testing track), so this should be fine. I also personally think it would look nicer to remove the chapter number from the page titles and purely use the game title and map name separated by a dash (e.g. "Portal 2 - Funnel Polarity", "Portal - Test Chamber 13", etc). This could potentially cause problems though if a mod had two maps with the same internal name in different chapters, so it would need further evaluation.
All the existing pages would be kept as redirects, so old links would still work. I'd like to hear people's feedback on this and if there's any reason it shouldn't be done or things that should be done differently than suggested. - VRadExe (talk) 00:24, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
: Sounds neat. I propose just using a redirect for these new titles, or moving the old pages to these new titles and leaving a redirect for them (if such changes are not feasible or wanted by the site staff). ~ Markus, <span style="font-family: 'Open Sans', 'Noto Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 125%">Headquarter8302</span> 00:38, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
:: I'm personally fine with the way things are currently (naming convention is defined here), and since there are hundreds of chamber pages, I don't think moving all of them to new locations is worth the effort just for aesthetics.
:: If the names are easy to remember, we can always use redirects to guide people to the right locations. — <span style="font-weight:bold;color: #5BC236">Tark</span> 19:55, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

No images
The whole page seems broken. All of the images are gone (dead links) and the homepage is reduced to just "<html><head></head><body></body></html>". I got an error upon logging in. Is someone griefing again or was there a server error? Derp (talk)
:Looks like a temporary server error. Pages and images load fine on my end ~ Markus, <span style="font-family: 'Open Sans', 'Noto Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 125%">Headquarter8302</span> 05:30, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
