'''Aperture Science''' is a scientific research company founded by [[Cave Johnson]]. ''Portal'' and ''Portal 2'' take place in Aperture Science's Enrichment Center, which is dedicated to endlessly testing the Aperture Science products and the humans that use them. Their logo is essentially just a picture of a camera lens with the F-number 2.8.

Aperture Science was founded as Aperture Fixtures in the early 1940s by Cave Johnson. Aperture Fixtures was primarily dedicated to the manufacture and distribution of shower curtains {{N}} a low-tech portal between the inside and outside of a shower {{N}} with Cave Johnson winning the "Shower Curtain Salesman of 1943" award. Some time between 1943 and 1947 the company's name was changed to "Aperture Science Innovators". While this was initially done to make their shower curtains sound more hygienic, the company's focus would indeed soon shift to actual science. Cave Johnson purchased a large, abandoned salt mine in Upper Michigan in which Aperture Science's Enrichment Center would be built; however, there was at least one alternate location in Cleveland, Ohio.

Throughout the late 1940s and the 1950s, Aperture Science would begin its comprehensive testing and research practices. The best possible test subjects, the likes of Olympians, astronauts and war heroes were first chosen. They were also the second largest contractor after [[hl2:Black Mesa|Black Mesa]] for the Department of Defense from 1952 to 1954. Aperture's developments in this period included [[Gels#Repulsion Gel|Repulsion Gel]], the [[Weighted Storage Cube]], the [[Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button|1500 Megawatt Super Colliding Super Button]] and the [[Handheld Portal Device|Aperture Science Portable Quantum Tunneling Device]], an early and significantly larger version of the modern Portal Gun.

By the 1970s, Aperture Science was financially unstable. The Olympians, astronauts and war heroes that were used as test subjects were replaced with vagrants who were paid $60 for their time. Aperture Science would continue its research and created [[Gels#Propulsion Gel|Propulsion Gel]].

In the 1980s, test participation became mandatory for all staff, raising the quality of the test subjects, but diminishing employee retention. Aperture's financial problems were severe at this time, but development continued. Moon rocks were used to create [[Gels#Conversion Gel|Conversion Gel]], an efficient portal conductor. {{Spoiler text|Cave Johnson would also be poisoned by his experiments with moon rocks and become deathly ill. As his health degraded he delegated his leadership to his assistant [[Caroline]], asking that her consciousness be placed in a computer. Testing continued with the hope that passing through portals repeatedly might somehow cure Cave Johnson of his illness}}. Aperture Science also began development of its [[GLaDOS|Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System]], an artificial intelligence which would be used to oversee scientific testing.

In 1998, GLaDOS was brought online for the first time during Aperture Science's annual bring-your-daughter-to-work-day. GLaDOS instantly became self-aware and homicidal. GLaDOS flooded the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin, killing most of the scientists. Aperture Science was effectively shut down and placed into a permanent testing cycle by GLaDOS.

The '''Space Sphere''' (more commonly known as the '''Space Core''') is a corrupted [[Cores#Personality Cores|personality core]] of male programming who first appears in ''[[Portal 2]]''. {{Spoiler|He is the first of three cores attached to [[Wheatley]] by [[Chell]] in order to initiate a Core Transfer Procedure.}}

The Space Sphere speaks in a hyperactive manner, constantly talking about his infatuation with outer space and how he would like to one day go to space. However, a small portion of his dialogue states that he eventually gets bored of space and wants to return to Earth. {{Spoiler|His dream of going to space is fulfilled after he gets sucked through a [[portal]] that sends him and Wheatley into space.}}

The Space Sphere, along with all the corrupted cores, is voiced by {{W|Nolan North}}.

This is the forty-seventh level of the game, and as well as being the final part of Chapter 7, it is also the last level to take place within the [[Aperture Science]] Enrichment Center. This level requires the player to utilise momentum, and combine the effects of [[Repulsion Gel]], [[Propulsion Gel]] and [[Conversion Gel]] in order to proceed.

The second map's file name is "sp_a3_end".

== Walkthrough ==

*Go through the door and head to the area before you.
*Fire a portal on the floor and the other on a pillar as high as you can.
*Turn to face a door on the wall. Fire a portal above the door and the other on the floor below. Jump through the portal.
*Shoot a portal on the floor with [[Repulsion Gel]] while keeping the other portal above the door. Wait for the gel to cover the panel.
*Put the same portal on the floor below and jump through it and wait for landing.
*Place a portal on the floor behind you. Jump down through the hole in the floor to get a little lower. Then jump through the portal on the floor.
*Fire a portal through the metal support panels to the floor. Then enter through the portal.
*Go through the [[Emancipation Grill]] ahead and place a portal on the [[Conversion Gel]] and then put the other portal to the ceiling at the end of the room.
*Wait for the gel to cover the wall.
*Place the portal on the wall and the other one under the [[Propulsion Gel]].
*Put the portal from the Propulsion Gel to the top of the wall. Fire the other one under it and run along the runway and go through the portal.
*Shoot a portal on the floor and the other one under the flowing Conversion Gel.
*Place the other portal above the floor. Then put the other portal under the Repulsion Gel.
*Go to the floor below and fire the portals on the wall, one on the top and the other below it. Go to the start of the runway.
*Run along the runway, go through the portals and wait for the final landing.
*Go around the pillar and shoot a portal on the floor. Place the other portal on the wall higher up, through the metal grill.
*Turn around and go forwards. Shoot the portal from the wall to the wall on the left.
*Wait until the gel has painted the roof and shoot a portal from the floor to the roof. Before going through, make sure that there is a warning triangle in the view of the portal. If there is, go through the portal.
*Go up until you reach the end. Then turn around and place a portal through the metal grill to a wall.
*There should be a spot of Conversion Gel on the floor. Shoot the other portal on it and go through.
*Walk over to the catwalk and go along it. Then turn right and go forwards.
*Look up on the wall and you'll see a catwalk. Shoot a portal above the catwalk and the other one on your level and go through.
*Go along the catwalk and turn left. Fire a portal on the wall on the right as high as you can. Place the other portal below the catwalk and jump through.
*Push the red button and jump down from the room.
*Head for the same catwalk and enter the elevator on the left.
*Wait for the doors to open and then go to the left, up the stairs and through the door.
*Go through the Emancipation Grill and get on the elevator.
