Once they finally reach this vault at the end of the course, GLaDOS reveals a great deal of anticipation and obsession over &amp;quot;rescuing&amp;quot; them. In an attempt to unlock the vault, the bots had to perform gestures like any human would - as the vault was an anti-robot section. GLaDOS then gives in and confesses that she is in need of their help and that someone has been tampering with the facility via control of an old prototype chassis of the [[Cores#Central Core|central core]]. To resolve this, she trains the bots into becoming her &amp;quot;killing machines&amp;quot; by deploying them into more challenging tests during their course. The text on top of the screen suggests that the subject might not be familiar with the facility, but explains that they need to exit the rooms. The first task where the player can be killed in is Task: 10, where a ledge the player needs to Portal over is introduced. The first encounter with a dangerous mechanic happens in Task: 11, with a modified &amp;quot;Crusher&amp;quot; used in the [[Portal Teaser Trailer (video)|trailer for Portal]]. Most of these tasks do not require precise timing, except for a few tasks featuring the High Energy Pellet (known as Combine Balls in the Half-Life Universe) or the dangerous &amp;quot;Electricity Field&amp;quot;, that lights up for four seconds at a time and then pauses for three seconds.&lt;br /&gt;

*Place a portal on the wall behind the glass wall and the other one on the wall behind you and enter the portal.&lt;br /&gt;
*Place the portal under one of the cubes, so that the cube enters the portal and fall near you. Then repeat.&lt;br /&gt;
*Turn to face the Thermal Discouragement Beam and place a portal on a wall near the Beam, so that you can take the two cubes safely near the beam.&lt;br /&gt;
*When you have the cubes near the beam, place one of them so the beam goes through two of the receptors.&lt;br /&gt;
*Take the other cube and use the beam coming from the first cube to destroy the turret on the other side of the room.&lt;br /&gt;
*Place the cube behind second receptor and aim it through the third one and the receptor in the wall to open the door.&lt;br /&gt;
*Place a portal in the ceiling in front of the Bridge and go stand near the exit.&lt;br /&gt;
*Place the other portal on the wall on the left side and use the bridge to get to the [[Chamberlock]].&lt;br /&gt;
