Portal 2: Lab Rat is a graphic novel released in April of 2011. A joint project between Valve and established comic book artists, such as Michael Avon Oeming and Jay Pinkerton, the comic depicts the events between the end of Portal and the beginning of Portal 2.

Plot summary
The comic follows Doug Rattmann, a lab worker at Aperture Science with a history of schizophrenia, who survives GLaDOS' attempt to murder every employee in the Aperture Science facility when she is first turned on. Sneaking through the facility, he watches from the shadows as Chell is tested by GLaDOS. The comic ends with the injured Ratmann crawling into a cryo-unit and putting himself to sleep.

The comic was released in two parts.
Trivia
* On page 8, a book titled "Art Therapy - The Bennet Way" can be seen during the explosion, explaining why Doug Rattman is creating murals throughout the Aperture facility. He uses art as an an attempt to help his schizophrenia.
* On page 13 of the comic, the Gravity Gun and Combine Health Dispenser from Half-Life 2, and the Black Mesa Health Station and H.E.V. Suit Charger from Half-Life make a cameo appearance.
* In one of Rattmann's lines, he says "Both alive and dead, until someone opens the box". This is a reference to Schrodinger's Cat, a theory involving neurotoxin and a cat sealed inside a box.

The Excursion Funnel is a game mechanic introduced in Portal 2. The mechanism creates a funnel of liquid asbestos in which the player may enter and exit at any time. It seems to defy the laws of gravity, allowing any who enter to become weightless and travel along the path of the funnel. Anyone or anything caught inside the funnel travels in the direction the funnel is flowing, unless the Funnel is made to reverse, which is usually accomplished through the activation of a button.

Excursion Funnels can pass through portals and can cross vast distances, and can therefore can be used to solve puzzles in which Funnels may not initially appear to be useful. If an Excursion Funnel is reversed, then it is possible for objects to use the portals through which the Funnel is acting.

Excursion Funnels can also act as a mode of transportation for the player or objects across large gaps, as well as Gels. Gels caught in the Excursion Funnel will slowly follow the direction of the Funnel until the substance collides with a wall or until the funnel suddenly disappears, making Funnels useful for coating large areas in a short amount of time.

Panels are the building blocks of the Aperture Science facilities. With the ability to be placed anywhere and shifted at any angle and height, they is capable of nearly infinite design. This makes Panels an ideal choice when it comes to constructing test chambers, allowing those in charge to create tests on a whim. Panels come in a variety of forms and functions, from lifting the player to obstructing the player from completing their goal.
clr

Function
Panels are capable of aiding or impeding the player's completion of the task at hand. Sometimes panels can be activated via buttons, which will either add or remove panels to the player's path. Panels can be applied to nearly every test, making them very useful for trapping a subject or blocking the player from a hazard. This mechanic becomes much more crucial during Co-op, as they're often used for blocking the partner from crashing into a hazard, or used to obstruct the duo from continuing.
The Edgeless Safety Cube was introduced in Portal 2, and is used only in Co-op gameplay, however it also appears once in the single player campaign as garbage. The Victory Lift is game mechanic introduced Portal, and also makes frequent appearances in Portal 2. The Victory Lift is a simple platform that rises when it is activated by the player.

Function
The primary function of the Victory Lift is to allow the player access to areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Victory Lifts are traditionally activated when the corresponding button is activated by the player, and will rise when the player stands on them. Some Victory Lifts do not require the player to activate them, and these platforms are usually activated upon completion of a Test Chamber. Victory Lifts will rise only while a player is standing on them, and will usually (but not always) descend when a player has disembarked the lift. Victory Lifts are critical when attempting to solve a number of Test Chambers, because not only do they provide access to the main portion of the Test Chamber or the Chamber's exit, but they allow the player to reach ledges and platforms that cannot be reached by utilizing the Handheld Portal Device or other means.

The Party Escort Bot is a mysterious character that appears at the end of Portal. The Bot itself possesses a mechanical tone of voice, similarly to the Personality Cores, and its only statement is to thank Chell for " assuming the party escort submission position".

In Portal, GLaDOS refers to a "party associate" in the final test chamber, and this presumably refers to the Party Escort Bot. Because Chell does not follow proper procedure in the final Test Chamber, it is presumed that the Party Escort Bot was required to travel to the surface in order to retrieve her and "escort her to the party".

Trivia
The Party Escort Bot uses a placeholder model in-game, named <code>GhostAnim.mdl</code>, which uses the texture of the bean cans found throughout the game.
The last core attached to GLaDOS is the Anger Core. It is also referred to as the Emotion Core. All it does is snarl and growl ferociously at Chell.
Central Core
The Central Core is hardwired into the maintain of Aperture Laboratories and given the power to control and regulate the entire facility. Such power includes overseeing the events that occur, creating and stockpiling test chambers, and so on. Unlike the personality cores, the central core does not have to retain a spherical shape, just uncorrupted.
Corrupted Cores
Due to technical difficulties over time, a core may be automatically labeled as a Corrupted Core and would be subject to being automatically disposed of. However, if the corrupted core is the central core, a substitute core must be present in a core receptacle to initiate a core transfer. Once a substitute core is found, both cores must agree or disagree to the core transfer procedure. If one agrees while the other disagrees, the transfer process cannot occur unless a stalemate resolution associate is present to press the stalemate resolution button, which will initiate the core transfer process once the associate has returned to the core transfer bay.

Portal 2: Lab Rat is a graphic novel released in April of 2011. A joint project between Valve and established comic book artists, such as Michael Avon Oeming and Jay Pinkerton, the comic depicts the events between the end of Portal and the beginning of Portal 2.

Plot summary
The comic follows Doug Rattmann, a lab worker at Aperture Science with a history of schizophrenia, who survives GLaDOS's attempt to murder every employee in the Aperture Science facility when she is first turned on. Sneaking through the facility, he watches from the shadows as Chell is tested by GLaDOS. The comic ends with the injured Ratmann crawling into a cryo-unit and putting himself to sleep.

The comic was released in two parts.
Turrets serve as one of the main obstacles in the Portal games. Armed with unlimited ammunition and deadly accuracy, they will attempt to kill any player in sight.

General
Sentry Turret
Sentry Turrets appear as miniature tripod robots that appear in both Portal games. They are incapable of independant movement, but they can slide their chassis parts (or 'arms') horizontally to reveal two gatling guns. The center holds their red 'eye', which emits a targeting laser.

When the player is unseen, the turret will appear motionless and its guns hidden. Moving into its angle of sight, however, will cause them to deploy the guns with a voice line before they commence fire. They will continue to fire until the player is dead or moves out of sight. If the latter occurs, the turret will have a brief moment where it will search for the player, after which it will resume its inactive stance.

Turrets can be defeated through a number of means. The most common method is knocking them over, causing them to flail and fire wildly before deactivating. This can be done by picking them up and dropping them, or using any object to push them. Additionally, the Thermal Discouragement Beam or Emancipation Grid can be used to completely destroy them.

Rocket Turret
The Rocket Turret is a unique enemy in Portal 1. It appears as a personality core outfitted with a rocket launcher. Upon activation, it will slowly lock onto Chell and emit a sound before launching a rocket. It plays a vital role in the battle with GLaDOS.

Appearences
Portal 1
Turrets are introduced to the player in Test Chamber 14. Following this, they will be present through the remaining levels.

Portal 2
Turrets return in the sequel as both an enemy to Chell and the Co-op robots. They appear fairly early in the game. Distinct versions of the turret are introduced, including the Defunct Turret and Animal King Turret.
The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (Also known as Portal Gun or ASHPD) is the experimental tool designed to place two Portals that objects can pass through. Test Subjects use this device to navigate the many Test Chambers that they are required to complete.

Overview
The Handheld Portal Device is designed to create and place Portals on any white surface that is immobile, flat and large enough. When the device is fired, a coloured projectile will be emitted from the barrel. If the projectile strikes a valid surface, a portal of the corresponding colour will be formed. If a portal of the other colour is already placed, these two portals will be linked. If a portal of the same colour is already placed, it will be closed and the new one will be used instead, limiting the player to the use of only two portals at a time. The glass chamber and a light on the top of the Portal Device will glow with the colour of the previously placed portal.

The Portal Device also has the ability to pick up and manipulate objects directly in front of it in the same manner as the Gravity Gun from the Half-Life series. It cannot launch objects like the Gravity gun, but cam carry heavy objects, even through Portals.
Er, that's me on IRC. I just sort of help out sometimes. I'm a Pirate Moderator on STS, and I enjoy playing Valve games, so that's something.
Also Sonic is cool.
La Historia Del Señor Laggesto
I did this translation in my free time, based on some IRC related fun. This page is rather bare, so here's this.
Translation might not be 100% accurate.
