The Portal 2 Wiki was founded on the 20th April 2011 by Lagg, RJackson and WindPower, who knew each other from being members of staff at the Official Team Fortress Wiki. The Wiki's intent is to document the Portal series, produced by Valve Software, in an encyclopedic manner that proves beneficial to fanatics, players and prospective players.
The second part of the level provides a more detailed look at the Aperture Science facility while the player is transported to the first Test Chamber. The final part of the level takes place within a dilapidated Test Chamber, and introduces the player to Portals, as well as the Weighted Storage Cube and the way in which it interacts with Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button. When the first Test Chamber has been completed, the player will encounter the Emancipation Grill and exit through the Chamberlock.

Gels are a gameplay mechanic officially introduced in Portal 2. They are paint-like liquids that impart different effects when applied to surfaces and objects. Gel cannot be applied to transparent surfaces (such as glass), and will pass through grating (also without painting it). Most test elements also cannot be coated in gel, with the exception of Cubes and Turrets. Cubes and turrets cannot be coated in Conversion Gel.

Gels
Repulsion Gel
Repulsion Gel

This gel is a light blue substance that provides repelling abilities. Any objects like the Storage Cubes and Turrets that hits a surface coated with the Repulsion Gel, will either bounce away from the gel patch or bounce erratically on its own upon being coated with it. Due to the effect, the height from which a test subject falls before landing on a gel-covered surface affects the height of a jump. Test subjects can also use the Gel to move back and forth between two parallel surfaces rather than merely be propelled up and down.

Clr

Propulsion Gel
Propulsion Gel

The Propulsion Gel is a light orange substance that greatly increases object velocity and reduces the friction of objects moving on the surface(s) it is applied to. Any objects covered in this gel have their friction reduced, causing them to slide around across the floor easily. In other words it just makes anything that touches it, and runs on it, fast.

Clr

Conversion Gel
Conversion Gel

A portal-conducting white substance made from ground moon rocks. It enables test subjects to fire portals onto surfaces previously incapable of conducting portals. Cubes and Turrets cannot be coated in Conversion Gel

Clr

Cleansing Gel
This gel may appear to be regular water with an ability to wash away other types of gels off of surfaces and any objects that have been coated. It is destroyed upon touching anything. It has no special properties in regard of the gameplay, and as such, does not affect any surfaces other than ones covered in other gels.

Clr
Slime
Slime or Sewage was found only in Portal during Chell's escape. While not technically a gel, it does have some properties similar to gels in Portal 2, such as the slippery effect of running on Propulsion Gel and an adhesion effect that keeps Chell somewhat stuck on the surface. It has no emitter, is not used to solve chambers, and it cannot be "painted" onto surfaces like the gels introduced in Portal 2.

Unused/cut gels
Adhesion Gel
Adhesion Gel

Adhesion Gel is a cut gel which was originally meant to allow the player to walk on walls, similarly to the blue Stick paint in Tag: The Power of Paint, which Portal 2's gel mechanics are based on. The gel was made purple as a placeholder; it was cut before the developers decided on a final color, so it remains purple in the final game. The gel was cut because many play testers experienced motion sickness and disorientation, having to think with portals while walking on walls and ceilings. Most of the gel's effects were removed in the final game, except one: cubes coated in Propulsion Gel will not slide across Adhesion Gel-coated floors, and vice-versa.

The gel was replaced by Reflection Gel in the Peer Review update.

Reflection Gel
Reflection Gel
Reflection Gel replaced Adhesion Gel in the Peer Review DLC. It appears the same color as Conversion Gel when painted on surfaces, and the color of Propulsion Gel when splatted on the screen. The Thermal Discouragement Beam will reflect off of it like a mirror, similar to the Discouragement Redirection Cube. It also retains Adhesion Gel's effect of counteracting Propulsion Gel.
Trivia
* The gel mechanic is a borrowed concept from TAG: The Power of Paint.
** A fourth gel, "Adhesion Gel", was also borrowed from TAG and was tested within Portal 2. It would have allowed players to "stick to a surface so you can walk up a wall like Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding"; however, it was removed early on during development due to making play-testers motion-sick. Its emitter is still in the game's files, however, but does not have any sticky properties or a texture.

* Repulsion Gel was Aperture Science's first attempt at creating dietetic pudding substitute.

* Blue-painted physics objects are actually bouncy if the jump key (Default: Space) is pressed on them. However, this is impractical and hard to pull off.
The Finale is the final test chamber in Portal Stories: Mel. The boss battle against AEGIS takes place here. The level is focused in the use of turrets, but it also features electrified water or goo as a hazard.

*Death Fizzler
*Falling to Death
*Low oxygen concentration
Walkthrough
{{Spoiler|block=yes|
*After entering the main room where AEGIS is, go to the right room. Proceed to the turret dispenser on the back. Use portaling and jumping on furniture to avoid the electrified water, or use portals with the water flow to extinguish the fire and portal to the back.
*A white turret will be in the dispenser. Use it to destroy AEGIS' servers. Should the turret die, another one will respawn in the dispenser.
*After destroying all of AEGIS' servers in the right room, return to the central room. AEGIS will start draining oxygen, limiting you with 4 and 6 minutes in Advanced and Story mode respectively.
*Enter the left room and use a turret from the dispenser on the far side of the room to destroy the servers on the bottom floor, like you just did in the previous room. Take care because a 50's turret will appear here, as well as on the second floor (those can harm you).
*Go upstairs and grab the 50's turret near the window. It will explode, breaking glass and making it possible to open a portal upstairs. Use one to bring a friendly turret to destroy the servers here.
*Use a portal under the now removed window and one near the ceiling to the right of the turret dispenser to fling yourself with friendly turret to the last server room and destroy the remaining servers.
*Without the servers, AEGIS will stop attacking (the timer will stop) and can be entered for manual control. Fling yourself to its bridge and open the hatch that says "You must sign an NDA before looking at this".

A series of cutscenes starts. From here on, no user interaction is required.
* Virgil remembers that there was another mechanical life form that AEGIS was trying to kill and tells Mel to discover who was it. The second mechanical target is revealed to be GlaDOS.
* Virgil complains that he and Mel may have done something wrong but tells you to shut off AEGIS anyway. The process requires a password: 2056 (not required to type by player).
* The Death Fizzler blocking the elevator is deactivated due to AEGIS' shutdown. Virgil tells Mel to put the Portal Device in the incinerator because the gun isn't allowed to get out of Aperture Science. Virgil says farewell to Mel, remembering everything they experienced in the escape. The elevator takes you to the surface, revealing a landscape with signs of human civilization destroyed.
* The credits roll.
* A fast camera flight through the underground facility follows, ending in the manual control room. AEGIS drains the facility’s reserve power, forcing Chell out of stasis, and Portal 2 begins.
* The screen fades to black, with a receding chant of “nine" audible.
* Rocket Turret from Portal can be seen in a pile of rubble near the start of the map.
* If a player continuously tries to interact with Virgil, he will eventually get annoyed and say "Am I speaking in an accent that is beyond your range of hearing?" which also gives the achievement Beyond Your Range of Hearing. This is a reference to a similar line delivered by Wheatley in Portal 2.
* A framed photograph in one of the offices depicts Cave Johnson shaking hands with Dr. Breen, a recurring character in Half Life.
* A TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) from the British science fiction television series Doctor Who can be seen out of bounds to the left.
* There are photo frames with photos of some of the developers of the game in some of the rooms.
* The track played during this map are The Junkyard Offices

{{Spoiler|
This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
huge success.
It's hard to overstate
My satisfaction.
Aperture Science.
We do what we must
Because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.

But there's no sense crying
Over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
Till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are
Still alive.

I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data
Make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm glad. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
For the people who are
Still alive.

Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else
To help you.
Maybe Black Mesa...
THAT WAS A JOKE, HA HA, FAT CHANCE.
Anyway this cake is great
It's so delicious and moist
Look at me still talking when there's science to do
When I look out there
It makes me GLaD I'm not you
I've experiments to run
There is research to be done
On the people who are
Still alive.

And believe me I am still alive
I'm doing science and I'm still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive
While you're dying I'll be still alive
And when you're dead I will be still alive
Still alive
Still alive.

Connection to game
GLaDOS
* Still Alive - GLaDOS revealed to be alive at the end of the game.
* And you make a neat gun - The Handheld Portal Device.
* Even though you broke my heart and killed me - Chell presumably killing GLaDOS.
* Maybe Black Mesa... THAT WAS A JOKE, HA HA, FAT CHANCE - Black Mesa is a company competing against Aperture Science in the Half-Life universe.
* And tore me to pieces - Presumably Chell detaching GLaDOS' Personality Cores
* And threw every piece into a fire. -
*
*
*
*
*

Trivia
* "Still Alive" was also used in Left 4 Dead 2 as an easter egg on a jukebox that can be found in the campaigns "The Parish" and "The Passing".
* An instrumental version of "Still Alive" can be heard on some radios in Portal.
* The words "HA HA" are not lyricized.

Composition
"Still Alive" was written by Jonathan Coulton, who also wrote "Want You Gone", and was sung by Ellen McLain, Voice actor for GLaDOS and opera singer. .
